"Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." II Corinthians 9:7
A lot of people got up early this morning, tested their walkie-talkies, made their way to the big-box stores, and waited eagerly for the store doors to open so they could take advantage of Black Friday sales. I do love the holidays, but not that much LOL. After enjoying more than my share of turkey on Thanksgiving and all of the tasty fixins that went with it, I did not roll over this morning until almost 8:00 AM. Going Christmas shopping during the early AM hours of Black Friday was the last thing on my mind, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to miss out on the entire day.
Many of us have so much to be thankful for. It's a blessing to be in a position to get out and buy gifts in preparation for Christmas Day. If you are blessed in such a way, I would like to ask you to remember two things:
As you hear the Salvation Army's Christmas bell ringing, be sure to drop some bills in the bucket. Before buying new tools, please help your child(ren) explore the toys they still have but no longer play with, and donate them to a charitable organization. There are so many things we can do, individually and collectively, to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
As you prepare for what life has in store for you today, remember the words of Maya Angelou, who said, "We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give."
