"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."

II Timothy 2:15

Yesterday's Discipleship Devotional led with the following questions:

1. Do you sometimes feel like you are just existing/going through the moments?

2. Are there times when you don't feel like you have a purpose?

3. Are there unresolved conflicts in your life that make you feel like you are just existing instead of enjoying life?

The answers to each of the above questions are embedded in the answers I will give to the four questions we will be exploring. Each question will be represented by the letter Q followed by the question number. Today, let's get started by exploring Q1:

Q1 - Whose feet do you sit at when it comes to holistic growth and productivity? The disciples sat at the feet of Jesus to gain knowledge and life application lessons. The disciples did not expose themselves to the teachings of others because they were blessed with direct access to the master teacher.

I encourage you to be very careful when it comes to who you allow access to and influence upon your thinking. It doesn't matter how charismatic the person may be, nor should it matter how authoritative/convincing they sound; you must ensure that the person you look to for wisdom and knowledge is not because the person looks good and/or sounds good. There is nothing wrong with chrisma or authoritative speaking, but there is something wrong when the chrisma and/or authority are not based upon the Word of God. When sitting at the feet of any leader for understanding and application, ensure you are a member of a Christ-centered | Holy Spirit-led, and Mission-bound church.

Minute Discipleship shares five protections that will help ensure you are sitting at the right person's feet for knowledge and application:

1. Be a serious student of God's Word

2. Learn from trusted teachers and commentators

3. Listen for the guidance of the Holy Spirit

4. Be extremely cautious about any "new" teaching or "new" revelation.

5. We don't need a new revelation. We're having a hard enough time being obedient to the revelation we already have.

As you prepare for what life has in store for you today, please carry this Discipleship Devotional in your spirit, heart, and mind. Remember what the apostle Paul said to his son in the ministry, Timothy: "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."
