Prayer Request for Day 41 of the Government Shutdown

"Be strong and courageous and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you." I Chronicles 28:20

There now appears to be light at the end of the tunnel, after the United States Senate agreed to a proposal to reopen the federal government. Yesterday, I asked you to pray for courage because most Americans would like to see local, state, and national representatives exemplify courage to lead and stand for what is right, even when doing so may not be to their political advantage. Today, I ask my readers to continue with the same prayer because the Senate is only half the battle. Approval must be achieved in the House of Representatives and signed by the President of the United States.

As you prepare for what life has in store for you today, remember the words of clergyman Phillips Brooks, who said, "Courage is the indispensable requisite of any true ministry. Courage is good everywhere, but it is necessary here. If you are afraid of men and a slave to their opinion, go and do something else. Go and make shoes to fit them. But do not keep on all your life preaching sermons which shall say not what God sent you to declare, but what they hire you to say."

Encourage your representatives to say and do what's necessary and proper, not what's in their best interest.
