Today, I would like to begin a series entitled "How Life Makes Me ________________". For the next few days, I will fill in the blank with a particular word. Today's word is "Stronger". "How Life Makes Me Stronger". In part, I would like to use a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt to explain how life can make you stronger. Eleanor said, "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face." When I read that quote, I immediately thought about how the challenges we face in life can turn failures into success and defeat into victory. Today, I have three questions for you:

  1. What fears are you ignoring and/or pretending no longer exist?
  2. Are you mastering your fears or allowing your fears to master you?
  3. What exactly are you afraid of and why?

If you want your life experiences to make you stronger, it's time you faced those fears rather than running from them. Facing your fears will not only develop character but also help secure and further develop your identity. As stated in my book "Conflicts Within: A Journey Through Real and Lasting Change":

"What is self-identification? It is the God-given ability to know who I am (my person), where I stand (my position), and to whom I belong (my provider)... having and maintaining a clear definition of who you are is foundational to managing or resolving the conflicts you face and struggle with daily." Elton L. Young

As you prepare for what life has in store for you today, remember that facing your fears can make you stronger.
