Yesterday's Discipleship Devotional explored the subject, "Character Matters". Today, I would like to explore the topic "Love Matters". One of my favorite scriptures comes from what is now known as the love chapter (I Corinthians 13:13), "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." That's right, when all is said and done, love will always remain standing. Why is that the case? The answer is simple. Unconditional love is greater than everything else because unconditional love is eternal, meaning it will always be needed, including in heaven. Faith will no longer be needed in heaven because what the Bible now teaches us will be evident to the eye. Hope will no longer be needed in heaven because what we now hope for will be our heavenly reality. But when it comes to unconditional love, it is an eternal attribute of God, meaning it is an everlasting part of God's nature and, therefore, an everlasting part of our nature.

I asked myself and explored the question, why is unconditional love everlasting? I would like to share with you the answer I received: "Unconditional love is considered everlasting because it is not dependent on circumstances, behavior, or reciprocity, allowing it to persist regardless of mistakes, time, or hardship. It is defined by its lack of limitations, offering constant acceptance and support rather than being a transactional emotion."

Remember, unconditional love is exactly that: it loves without conditions, as demonstrated by an eternal commitment to the welfare of all that God, in his infinite wisdom, has created. Whether a person is right, left, or center, rich or poor, none of that matters when it comes to loving unconditionally.

How deep/genuine is your love for others?
