My phone woke me up this morning with a severe weather/shelter-in-place tornado warning. It wasn't what I was expecting, but it happened. I had the kids, along with our family dog, sheltered in the bathroom, and the family cat in the laundry room. By 7:00 AM, the severe weather alert had lifted, and the kids celebrated the school alert notification informing us that they would not have to be at school until 9:00 AM.
All of that drama reminded me of God's mercy as recorded in Lamentations 3:22-23, which says, "Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness." The above scripture has found its way into several sermons I've preached. I'm always reminded that the mercies God granted us yesterday were for that day and time. Every day, He supplies His children with new mercies.
You, too, may have been awakened by severe weather and school alerts this morning. It's good to know that whatever the day brings, God has already supplied us with the mercies we need; mercies that will protect us in unimaginable ways.
