Your Prayers and Activism Helped End the Longest Government Shutdown in U.S. History

"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16

On day 43 (Tuesday, 11/12/25) of the government shutdown, the House of Representatives passed the bill the Senate had already passed, and President Trump signed it into law. CBS News reports that the longest government shutdown in modern U.S. history ended Wednesday night when President Trump signed a bill to fund the government through Jan. 30, ending a 43-day impasse.

The self-inflicted wound of the U.S. government's shutdown impacted many in the following ways:

  • 42 million Americans had to receive food aid assistance.
  • 670,000 federal employees were furloughed.
  • 4,000 federal employees faced layoffs.
  • More than $7 billion in economic damage was done to the U.S. economy.

I want to thank all of my subscribers for joining me each day in prayer. As the word of God says, "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." This morning, I came across an AI-generated interpretation of James 5:16. I would like to share it with you. "The sincere, earnest prayers of someone who is living a life aligned with God's will have great power and produce significant results."  Prayer combined with activism resulted in the reopening of our federal government.

As you prepare for what life has in store for you today, remember the words of Fredrick Douglass and John Lewis:

"Power concedes nothing without a demand." Frederick Douglas

"Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America." John Lewis
